Since its first international delivery to Ghana on February 25, the COVAX has delivered more than 38 million doses of vaccines from manufacturers AstraZeneca, Pfizer-BioNTech and Serum Institute of India (SII) vaccines to over 100 middle or lower income economies across six continent.
Amidst the growing concerns of vaccine hoarding and nationalism, COVAX have created fair opportunity through global coordination and support to ensure equitable sharing of COVID-19 vaccine. COVAX is expecting to deliver at least 2 billion doses of vaccines in 2021 through diversification of its portfolio and forming new agreements with vaccine manufacturers. Praising the effort, WHO chief said “COVAX has given the world the best way to ensure the fastest, most equitable rollout of safe and effective vaccines to all at-risk people in every country on the planet,”
COVAX is a global initiative co-led by CEPI, Gavi and WHO, alongside key delivery partner UNICEF.
